VOTE!

I was thinking of writing a very different article today, but today plain and simple you have one job. Put down the phone, take the headphones off, get out from behind the television, and get off the couch. Go vote.

I hate to admit it but I have a boyfriend who does not give a rat’s a** about voting and any citizen participation in our government. I have literally spent the last week lecturing him on the importance of becoming and remaining involved. Even so much as sitting him down and signing him up on the last day to register to vote and receive mail in ballots.

But do not fret if you are not registered prior to attending your local polls! Luckily in California we have passed laws that allow you to register in person the same day you vote. Fifteen states plus the District of Columbia make same day registration available on Election Day.

It is also super easy to look up the issues too. I’ve provided you with a link that provides short summaries and in-depth analysis depending on your flavor:

Voters edge:

http://votersedge.org/ca

If you are uncomfortable voting for any particular ballot measure, bond, or candidate you do not have to fill out everything (though I highly encourage you to!).

If you are a democrat, a republican, an independent, green party member, or any other possible affiliation, it is your civic duty as an American to be involved. If you are unhappy with the status quo do not lose hope, the sole purpose of opportunities like these are to create change and prevent stagnation.

So close that laptop, phone, or tablet and get out there my friends. I will see you next week and we can wear watching “I Voted” stickers.

    Hello,

I was once that person who did not really care to vote, but through time I was able to hear people lecture me and genuinely come to an understanding how important it is! I’m happy I came across this post on such a monumental day!

I think it is very cool that you chose to write a blog post about voting. I do think voting is important and that everyone’s voice should be heard. I use to not care about voting until I got older and saw the importance in it. Your blog post was very inlightening and I really hope that if people were questioning whether they should vote or not read your blog post and changed their mind!
