Galantis

Galantis hit the scene in 2014, and took the EDM community by storm. There wasn’t a music festival you could go to, a stage that you would pass, a show that was playing without hearing the euphoric beats and sounds of this Swedish duo.

A Brief History

Swedish artists, Christian Karlsson and Linus Eklöw, did not emerge together on the scene, nor were they newcomers at the time their first Galantis album dropped in 2014. The names may be unfamiliar to you, but the sounds and music composed by these two men have long infiltrated popular pop music and early 2000’s edm hits. Karlsson was originally known for co-writing and co-producing music with famous artists such as Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry and Madonna. Brittany Spear’s “Toxic” would be one of his most recognizable tracks and go on to win him many awards. Eklöw would help produce Icona Pop’s “I Love It,” in 2012, creating that summer’s largest dance craze. Linus Eklöw would eventually become the powerhouse’s source of positive and uplifting sound.

In The Beginning

Karlsson would go on to participate in the group Miike Snow, and eventually invite Eklöw to remix one of their songs “Animal” in 2009. Karlsson would describe Eklöwas “different” and “artsy,” according to Big Beat Records. The two found commonality in the music they generated and the energy they brought to the studio and found themselves working on more music collaboratively.

“It’s a wordless communication. It’s almost like telepathy. You get it from being in the studio together for a long time, but we also share a lot of common interests in music.” –  Eklöw, Big Beat Records

Galantis

Beginning back in 2013, singles began to be released by the duo. “Smile,” would hit the scene and would change edm music indefinitely.

They would later release their self titled album, Galantis, would drop 1 April 2014, skyrocketing the group to international fame.

What they brought to the scene was something enthusiasts had never heard before. They changed the loop that other electric artists worked with, stripped down the music, and utilized the now infamous sound of a blended female/male voice.

It was a refreshing injection of creatively put together songs that depended on high pitch vocals and soft whispery voices that drew emotion out of the listener. Galantis knew exactly what they were doing while producing this music. It was not just an attempt at creating party anthems, something the scene was primarily known for, no it felt more like having one’s diary on display and realizing we all share these deep emotions.

Pharmacy

Galantis would take it one further with, Pharmacy, be their debut album, dropping shortly before the Electric Daisy Carnival the 15 June 2015. Displaying a sound that was zeroed in on, the group’s music could be heard blasting from every stage, and the duo would be set in a prime position to close out the three day festival at sunrise.

This album showcased their earlier debuted music from their self titled album Galantis, but also featured new music such as “Louder, Harder, Better” and “Firebird.” It became almost frantic in the edm community to remix their songs. Long time artists such as Kaskade, Srillex, and Marshmello recognized the draw of their music and jumped on the bandwagon to insert Galantis’ music into their festival sets. They would go on to tour Europe and North America, DJing some of the hottest festivals and venues in existence.

This was a very exciting time to be apart of such a large music community, to see it expand once more to include more positivity and love in the scene, and to generate a new style in which to approach and create tracks.

New Album

Recently the duo dropped a new music teaser on their Instagram, and have left the edm community in a frenzy anticipating the arrival of their much coveted work.
